About Me

Meet Leigh Wayna, LMSW

I am a Clinical Social Worker licensed in Michigan with 17 years of experience working in multiple varied environments. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, OCD and ADHD. I have also had a great deal of experience in crisis counseling, counseling for individuals experiencing mental illness, and substance abuse counseling.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe wholeheartedly in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, person centered, psycho-dynamic and motivational interviewing. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

It takes courage to seek support for a more fulfilling and happy life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

How Self Reflections Counseling Was Born:

How Self-Reflections Counseling Was Born

Once, when I was 8 years old, my family visited Toronto, Canada, to see Phantom of the Opera in the theater.  While we were there, I had my first encounter with homelessness.  My parents explained to me that some people don´t have homes, food to eat, or resources to care for themselves.

I was significantly saddened by that and it impacted me greatly.  I decided that year for my birthday that I would request that no one bring me gifts, but instead bring non-perishable food items to donate to my local food pantry.  Since that day, I have felt a need to reach out to others and lend a helping hand, a kind word, or a listening ear.  I entered the Social Work field to continue this mission.

Through my 17 year career as a Social Worker, I have sought opportunities to respond to the needs of those around me and I sincerely hope it has been enough to make the world just a bit better, even if only in my own corner of it.  My mother, sister and I have frequently joked over the years that if we were to win the lottery and have the means, we´d like to open a ¨Professional Do Good-er Society¨ to provide support to the community around us.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic that began in  March of 2020, my career took an unexpected turn when the position I was working in was eliminated.  I was given the opportunity to re-imagine what I wanted the rest of my journey to look like and I began to build my dream!

Self Reflections Counseling is small and just beginning, but I hope someday to rise to the level of ¨Professional Do Good-er Society¨ and impact the world in big ways.  I invite you to join me on that journey and to find ways in which YOU can influence your own corner of the world in a positive way!
